Bicycling
The Iowa City area sees a great interest in cycling and accommodates commuters, leisure cyclists and competitive cyclists. Hard surface trails, mountain bike trails, county roads and gravel roads enable bicyclists of all kinds to ride safely and enjoyably. Bring a bicycle or rent one from a local shop to take an afternoon ride while visiting. Below are links to helpful resources in getting familiar with the area and knowing where to start.

Trail Riding
Iowa Bikeways is a great website to search trails throughout the entire state. The Iowa River Corridor Trail page provides an interactive view of Iowa City's longest and most heavily used trail. The Iowa Department of Transportation also has an interactive map that labels types of trails in Johnson County and other areas in Iowa.

Road and Gravel Cycling
Iowa's county roads are well-suited for road and gravel riding and offer beautiful scenery along the state's rural countryside. They allow riders to feel removed from the city, but still offer easy access to its amenities. Below are several routes of varying distances that wind through Johnson and surrounding counties.

Bicycling Events
There is no shortage of bicycling events in the Iowa City area. In 2011 and most recently in 2015, Coralville was an overnight host for RAGBRAI, one of the greatest rides in the world. The granGABLE fondo is an annual ride that the Convention & Visitors Bureau co-produces; it also supports Jingle Cross, a competitive cyclocross event that draws people from all over the nation and world. A number of other rides fill the calendar of area cyclists.
